>The research group of Prof James Economy at the "University of Illinois", has been extensively involved in the formation of ceramic matrix composites utilizing the liquid infiltation of pre-ceramic polyborazylene derived from borazine into a hybrid matrix. Thus, high density carbon fiber/boron nitride matrix composites have been prepared that show exceptional wear resistance [S Seghi, J Lee and J Economy, Carbon, 43 (2005) 2035-2043]. These composites show outstanding wear resistance and may have great potential for the aircraft brake industry. Work in this area is also being carried out at Ekos Corporation.
