Polyborazylene for coating of Ceramics

Sneddon and coworkers [Chemistry of Materials, 7 (1995) 1942-1956] have reported the synthesis, properties and ceramic conversion reactions of polyborazylene. Excellent chemical and ceramic yields of boron nitride were obtained upon pyrolysis. Solutions of polyborazylene were used to coat carbon and ceramic fabric yarn bundles which upon pyrolysis produced excellent BN coatings.

Polyborazylene can be used to prepare boride/nitrides of metals such as Ti, Hf ,Zr,etc [K.Su et al,Che, of Mat. 4 (1992),1139-1141] and [S.T.Schwab et al, J of Material Sciences 39 (2004) 6051-6055.
