Boron Nitride materials for electronic and semi conductor Industry
Boron nitride polymers have been proposed as
new building blocks for electronic
devices. Based upon quantum-mechanical
simulations, copolymers of sections
of carbon and BN can be formulated
to tune electronic properties.
Such materials would be much
cheaper than conventional semiconductors.

Also, in the electronics area, the increasing
demand for high integration
and high speed of semiconductor
devices is leading to the use
of copper replacing the conventional
aluminum. Here, boron nitride
materials of low dielectric
constant are attracting attention.

The boron nitrogen materials
are prepared, in this case,
from substituted borazines which
are polymerized. The materials
are claimed to be useful as
a barrier metal layer or an
etch stopper layer, or as a
substrate for electric circuit
parts. BoroScience Canada, Inc
has developed new ways to substituted
borazines.
Another recent application for borazine materials is for optoelectronic applications. Borazine materials have been demonstrated to be a new class of multifunctional and thermally stable materials with high electron and moderate hole mobilities for applications in electroluminescent devices [ I.H.T. Sham et al, Chem. Commun., 2005, 3547-3549]. The borazines in this application are substituted borazines.
